Ceramicist, Painter, Photographer,
Installation Artist

Ancel is a visual artist from Georgetown, Guyana. Her focus on social commentary depicts Caribbean medicinal tradition and encourages dialogue around cultural ownership through 3D clay sculptures, ceramic, paintings, photography and installations.

Ancel holds a BFA from the Barbados Community College, and a DipFA from the E R Burrowes School of Art, Guyana. In 2008 she penned the theme song “CARIFESTA Once Again” for the celebration of Caribbean arts in Guyana, and exhibited also with the Roots and Culture art group.

She held her first solo exhibition “Caribbean Bread Basket” in 2003 in Guyana and her second, an installation titled, “The Caribbean Bush Doctor and Modernity” in Barbados (2014). Ancel collaborated with Canadian artist Heidi Berger at the Gallery of Caribbean Arts 2016 for the “Land Marks/Hand Marks” exhibition.

She currently lives in Barbados and tutors at the Barbados
Community College.
